How to fund my live in care service

Funding live in care services with Skyline

The cost of 24-hour live in care at home is often determined by the level of care required and the number of people needing care. These rates can vary according to the Care Professional’s experience and qualifications.

Live in care is the most cost-effective kind of care for those who need 24/7 support but would like to maintain their independence. Contrary to what many people assume about live in home care, it can actually be more cost effective than moving to a care home.

How to pay for live-in care with Skyline

You can pay for live-in care privately, with assistance from the NHS or local authority, or from some combination of different sources. As we are a small company, the majority of our services are funded privately or through direct payments.

Most people who pursue live-in care will initially pay for it privately until there capital falls below £23,350.00. Once the capital has fell below the £23,350.00 threshold, and it is still safe to meet care needs in the community, the Local Authority in most instances fund the live in care package.

Note that during a financial assessment, your property is not taken into account as you are living there.

What is direct payment

Direct Payments offer you more choice, flexibility and control over how your eligible needs are met, how your support is provided and who provides it. This includes purchasing and arranging care and support for things that are important in your life.

There are three steps that you can follow to ensure that you receive all the money to which you are entitled:

3 steps to follow:

STEP 1

Check your eligibility for benefits with a benefits calculator

STEP 2

Check your eligibility for NHS continuing healthcare funding

STEP 3

Apply for local
authority funding

Will The Local Authority fund my live in care service?

According to the NHS, you might be eligible for local council support towards the cost of your social care if you have less than £23,350 in savings (called the upper capital limit, or UCL).

Exactly how much your council will pay depends on what care you need and how much you can afford to pay.

Note that during a financial assessment, your property is not taken into account as you are living there.

The first step is for your council to do an assessment to check how much help you need. This is called a needs assessment. The needs assessment is free and anyone can ask for one. Find out more about getting a needs assessment.
